The numbers everyone quotes, and the ones ETS has published
The GRE is section-adaptive. You sit 12 questions, and how you do on them decides whether your next 15 are less challenging, moderately challenging or more challenging. That one mechanism is where most of the advice in circulation comes from. Here is what ETS has actually published about it.

The numbers stated most confidently across the internet are exactly the ones ETS has never published. Each of those five has a chapter in here that gives the ETS wording, names what the market prints in the gap, and says what to do given that nobody outside ETS knows.
The test changed in Sept 2023. Much of what is on sale did not.

Five things the internet is telling you that are wrong
We checked what is circulating against ETS's own documents. These five are repeated widely enough to cost you marks.

Every claim has a source. Every one.

Where ETS has never published something, you are told so rather than sold a guess. Each section ends with a chapter called "What nobody actually knows", and it is a real list: the raw scores that route you between second sections, any score ceiling attached to a difficulty tier, the raw-to-scaled conversion, how many questions of each type a section holds, and how many passages the Verbal section carries. The mock in here runs on routing thresholds that are ours, printed as ours, because there is no published rule to reconstruct.
You are buying prep that admits what it does not know. That is the whole point.
